I am thinking about buying a Lagoon 1 for travelling around using public transport.

Is there sufficient space onboard to store the carrying bag & pump whilst kayaking.

I will ask a similar question about the firefly.

With either model the bag and pump would need to be stored under the bungee lacing on the deck. The firefly has a smaller bag and if you use a foot pump, it should be plenty feasable. The Lagoon bag is a bit larger but if folded up nicely along with a foot pump, you should be able to store it as well. Depending on how tall you are, you could also store the bag under the deck in the front of the kayak were your feet would press against it but you could really only do this in the Lagoon.

I am 6 foot tall & weigh 190 lbs. I have read on another review of the firefly that it is only suitable for smaller paddlers. Would I have a problem ?

My paddling would mainly be on canals, slow rivers or estuaries.

I feel that you would be dissapointed with the firefly due to your size. I am 6'2" 185 and am happy to paddle the Lagoon. It is fun and very maneuverable. You could paddle the firefly but you would be muchmore cramped and would get a lot of play in it (moving back and forth constantly having to correct your direction).

Thank you for an honest assessment.

I agree with Jeremy's assesment of size and the Firefly. My own Dragonfly (an earlier version of the Lagoon) has been paddled comfortably by my partner (5'10" and 220 lbs). My friend who is 6'3" and 250 has fit into it but his long legs and big feet make it a tight fit.

I regularly take this kayak on the bus and in friends' cars, and have taken it on planes, subway trains, commuter buses and streetcars. I strap the carrying bag on its end with bungees to a small folding luggage roller. The bag is big enough to cram a PFD, throw bag, bilge pump, foot pump and a two-piece paddle with the ends of the paddle sticking out one end of the zipper. If your PFD is bigger than mine, wear it on the bus -- people will watch you get on and off anyways.

When I get to where I want to paddle, I set up the kayak. The folding luggage roller goes on the front deck with a bungee. (I tried putting the roller under my legs, but it wasn't comfortable there. I tried putting the roller under my seat, but that raised my centre of gravity and made me feel unstable.)
The foot pump tucks inside the kayak, ahead of my feet. (There's room for a 10 litre drybag here, too. I'm 5'1".) I have a larger doublestroke pump that can go on the front deck
The empty carrying bag I fold and roll up into a bundle about twice the size of a loaf of Wonder Bread. I put the rolled bag on the back deck, behind the seat, and clip one end of a long bungee to the kayak's rear handle, wrap the bungee around the bag, and clip the other end of the bungee to the loop that holds the seat (you may have to clip over the cockpit coaming). I put the bag on the back deck because it is very light even if the bundle is pretty big. The bundle is only a problem there on a day that's so windy that going on the water is a bad idea.

I have practised falling out of the kayak on a warm day in safe conditions, and recommend that any kayak user do safetly practise.
