How about getting an AF-Sport shell for my spare tube?
I'm considering it but can you retrofit a Sport shell on the AF-1012-R tube?
Also, I'm worried about water from paddle splash coming into the kayak due to the larger cockpit. Do AF-Sport onwers end up soaking wet (still water/river/lake)?

I've picked up an Advanced Frame AE-1012-R from 2006 and it's in a sorry state. One deck lift blown, floor eaten by mice, and ripped hull (15mm rip on the fold just in front of the black rubber stern reinforment). Luckily, the inner tubes and tube shell are in excellent condition (apart from a few rust spots).
I've been quoted for a new red shell from AE, which is very good of them, but before I go ahead, I'd really like to get my hands on a blue or green shell (I already have an AE-1012-Red that I kept in excellent condition before picking up this second one).

Does anyone know where I can pick one of these up?

You could do it. You would just have to cut a hole in your tube/outer cover to accommodate the 2nd valve.

I have the tube outer cover with the bladder that came with an AE1012R. I think all I'd need would be the outer shell.
Do you mean I'll have to cut a hole in the outer shell of the sport?

if I look at the photo on the AE site here, http://www.advancedelements.com/advancedframe_sport.html and the online manual, I can see a valve in the outer shell of the Sport in the same place as on the AE1012R. Am I missing something?

How about water intake on the sport. any comments? - many thanks for your help so far

Sorry, yes, the AF1 tube/tube cover will fit in the Sport outer cover. You may need to trim the valve opening a tad, if, the valve position is slightly different. I/personally, have never done this retrofit before but it should work since they are essentially the same kayak.

Water intake-
If your not in heavy chop, i wouldn't worry about taking on too much water. I have yet to hear any complaints about the bigger cockpit opening.

The only water I worry about when out in the Sport, is rain Smile But yes, you can expect a bit more splash water in your boat. At least it's this way for me, compared to the 1012 and the Expedition.
