I took my expedition out on the sea for the first time last weekend. I spent nearly 6 hrs in it and got on OK but did find a few issues. It was quite a windy day and I found he kayak tended to weathercock a far bit. It did it much more than either the 15ft hard-shell or even the 'sit on top' one mate had. There is a small fixed skeg fitted as standard but I did start to wonder if there's a way to fix a larger retractable type skeg (similar to the sea kayak) to the stern. I was thinking along the lines of strapping this around the end rather than a permanent fixture. As there’s a metal insert at the stern it should have a ridged base to attached to. Has anyone done anything along these lines?

This is an old post but was thinking have you managed to find any information.?

or are you still looking for a solution.

Had mine at sea as well in high winds and yes it does get moved about a little faster than the hard shell kayaks.

I think it is just the fact there light and full of wind.

I cant see myself that a bigger skeg may be the solution..
