| I took my expedition out on the sea for the first time last weekend. I spent nearly 6 hrs in it and got on OK but did find a few issues. It was quite a windy day and I found he kayak tended to weathercock a far bit. It did it much more than either the 15ft hard-shell or even the 'sit on top' one mate had. There is a small fixed skeg fitted as standard but I did start to wonder if there's a way to fix a larger retractable type skeg (similar to the sea kayak) to the stern. I was thinking along the lines of strapping this around the end rather than a permanent fixture. As there’s a metal insert at the stern it should have a ridged base to attached to. Has anyone done anything along these lines? |

This is an old post but was thinking have you managed to find any information.?
or are you still looking for a solution.
Had mine at sea as well in high winds and yes it does get moved about a little faster than the hard shell kayaks.
I think it is just the fact there light and full of wind.
I cant see myself that a bigger skeg may be the solution.. |
