I have a hole in the very front of the boat. It went through the black part and also the gray. I bought type b and used it on the black part, but have tried lieing down in the kayak and can't get the gray part patched. If the black part is patched, is it necessary for the gray part to be also?

It just seems too far up and too awkward to get it to work.

Are you unable to reach the tear from the inside? Is it because you are a very large person? If so, maybe a small person can help you while you hold the boat open. Perhaps you have a friend who is used to making crafts.

Gee, this sounds familiar. You are right, that area is very inaccessible for repairs. My arms are not long enough to reach up in there. We took the plastic shaping forms out of the pockets on the inside and turned it inside out as best we could. I had trouble with the type B not laying flat enough over this curved area and water gets in through the folds. I am really tempted to give up and ask how much a new outer skin would be. Good luck, let us know if you come up with something! I've since bought a sea kayak and haven't used this since, but it is a nice thing to have for guests and beginners. Seems a shame to toss it!
