1 BB or DS or both? Why? I know you are not to use them together. We always say try it as is first. It works great. A lot of folks that under inflate the kayak find that the BB or DS is helpful. If you want extra umph, the BB creates a V shape to the hull helping with tracking at a more affordable ...

rlpugh1 - Any word on when the DS floor will be available? Last I heard was July 31st, but still haven't seen it offered anywhere. I do a lot of paddling in places where I've touched the bottom, so I think I'd be better off with that than with the backbone.

I've not found any local shops with any inflatables that are not just in box. Nobody seems to want to sell them badly enough to unpack them. Are you near any REI stores? (You don't mention which country you are from, this is a US chain) They sell some of the AE models; that's where I got my convert...

Your use of the kayak sounds similar to mine. Mostly lakes or calm rivers. The only time I wished I had a spray skirt was when my daughter got overly enthusiastic at paddling (front half of a Convertible) and splashed me. Other than that, it doesn't sound like you'll really need one.

So how is the rough estimate looking? I keep hitting a few of the on-line stores to see if it's in stock. If I should wait a while longer I will... ;-) Actually, once it's in stock, how long does it usually take for various places to show it's back in?

Re: Looking to sit in a AE1012

Hi All, I'm really interested in an Advanced Elements Advanced Frame kayak AE1012. My problem is that the only retailer I can find within 50 miles is REI and all their 1012's are stored in the bags. They have no kayaks on the floor and I'd really like to sit in one before I make a purchase. I'm loc...

Thank you for that comparison!! Since a lot of my paddling (at least so far) has included shallow water, I'll wait until the dropstitch floor is back in stock and get one. Too bad it's not in stock at REI right now, they are having another 20% off sale. ;-)

And here I was hoping stocks depleted because you were about to announce a new combined dropstitch/backbone floor. :-) You sort of implied you were looking into it here: http://www.advancedelements.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1293 Sep 28, 2011. But then again, given that was almost 4 years ago, I gue...

Thanks. I took it out for the first time a little over a week ago. I actually forgot to count how many pumps it took, but 50 gives me a starting place. I took my youngest daughter with me, and we got her 100th geocache out on the river. She had a blast doing so, now the other two are clamoring for t...

You must be a confident paddler, to wear hearing aids on the water! I leave mine onshore with my eyeglasses. Don't want to lose any of them. It seems that the AE Kayaks are really really hard to flip over in the water. If I were in a regular kayak, I probably wouldn't have my hearing aids with me. ...

Thanks for the feedback! I was doing some research on the backbone, and saw a few people say that if you frequently are in low water, scraping the bottom or things in the water, it's best not to use the backbone. That describes most of my paddles so far, so I'm thinking I'll nix that idea for now. I...

Introducing myself... a tad late. Baltimore, MD, US

So I have already been posting a bit, but today realized I never properly introduced myself. I'm a Baltimore area geocacher who got fed up with seeing all the good water based geocaches and not being able to get them. I bought a used AE Expedition and started going out for them and having fun advent...

What are "must have" accessories?

REI is having their 20% off sale staring tomorrow and lasting for a little bit. Last time they had the sale, I got my Convertible. Then we had a really bad winter, so I haven't even had a chance to use it yet. But wanted to find out what accessories would be good to pick up with this sale. I can get...

Approximately how many pumps with the double action?

After using my Expedition kayak for 2 years, my kids made me feel guilty enough (plus I used coupons and a few years of co-op refunds at REI) that I bought a Convertible kayak so I could start taking them with me. The kayak has been sitting in the basement over this long, cold, snowy winter. But I c...

If we weren't being furloughed this summer, I'd seriously consider getting a convertible kayak so I could take one of my kids out with me next time. Hopefully next year.
