Here I am, almost a month late posting a reply to this story, but I've only just gotten back onto the forum after a long hiatus. I hope to be more active in the future. Anyway, thanks for posting such and interesting story Lee! There's something about viewing wildlife from a kayak that is so much mo...

Loaning your AE kayak to inflatable doubters

Well, today I went back out to the Aurora Paddlefest and loaned my kayak to a couple guys who wanted to take a spin and see how it handles. Both guys liked it and although one guy I think hit a little too much on the limitations of the boat - namely the width and how high it sits. He felt it was ver...

Expedition wet rescue at Aurora Paddlefest

I went to the Aurora Paddlefest in Aurora, Illinois today. The paddlefest is a two day event put on by the Illinois Paddling Council, City of Aurora, and the Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Association. There were numerous vendors there with various brands and styles of kayaks available for demo paddling....

I don't know of pumps with gauges available where you are, however I do have an observation on pumps with gauges in general. I asked my kayak dealer about the pumps with gauges and whether they're worth the extra few bucks over the gauge-less pumps. I already have a pump that is a double-shot design...

Packlite Spray Skirt - no handle?

I just got the Packlite Spray Skirt and I'm surprised to see it has no pull handle on the front. Being relatively new to kayaking I've never actually done a roll or been flipped upside down so I've never needed to actually do a wet exit. However, all the other spray skirts I think I've seen had a pu...

Seat for Expedition

Does anyone use an accessory seat for extra padding in the Expedition or other AF kayaks? I'm finding that on longer paddles I can't seem to move around enough to keep the pressure off my "sit-bones" and so I get a bad ache in my hindquarters and the back of one thigh. I've seen a couple cushions fo...

My local West Marine doesn't carry the Mcnetts products. The only waterproofing stuff they had was this 303 stuff and some other brand that had something called ptef in it, whatever that is. I gather AE recommends the Mcnetts product over others?

Purchasing Mcnett products

Is it possible to purchase the Thundershield spray and the UV protectant directly from AE or does it need to be purchased from another retailer?

No worries - Holly assured me the Expedition had never been used and I found that everything was there. I've had it out three times now and it doesn't get any lighter, I'll tell you that! What amazes me is how freaking huge it is and that it packs into that little suitcase size bag! It fits pretty c...

It's quite possible that I may have gotten your kayak. Holly described it as an open box never used kayak purchased by someone who felt it was too heavy even to lug out to their car. Holly said it was bought by a woman though, maybe someone else but similar situation?

AE AdvancedFrame Expedition review

Well, my AE Expedition arrived a few days late. It was supposed to arrive on the 20th, but due to a UPS mix up of some sort it didn't arrive until the 23rd. I purchased the kayak as an upgrade from a Sevylor Pointer K1, purchased from Holly and Chuck at www.airkayaks.com. Man, talk about fantastic c...

AE Expediton featured in new blog

I just acquired an AE Expedition and also coincidentally started a new blog about my experiences in natural history and with exploring nature. My first full-length entry details my trip up the North Shore Channel in Chicago in my AE Expedition. You can read all the details here: http://natural-histo...

I have a similar boat to your Sea Eagle. Mine is the Sevylor Tahiti K79-HF. It looks almost exactly like your Sea Eagle and when I saw the Sea Eagles my first thought was they copied the general design of the Tahiti kayaks which have been in production from Sevylor since the 1960s. Anyway I found my...

el_brio I thought I'd bump this thread in case you were watching. I live in the Chicago area as well and I just bought an AE Expedition. It was an upgrade from a Sevylor Pointer K1. Anyway, just wondering if you bought your AE Advanced Frame 10.5. I'm always looking for someone else in the area with...
