There's a rare 4-day break from school for the boys this Easter weekend. So, we headed out camping and kayak fishing again. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/lewchinw/8B3C045D-E334-49F5-8D6C-D4BC2FC4078E-195-00000071A45957C8_zps21c5dbd5.jpg It was a hazy day. http://i1139.photobucket.com/alb...

It has been a long time since I took the old faithful kayak out camping. Kayak voyage with light entertainment. Someone asked me today: Hi Alex... So was yr AE10.5 flooded in the rain...?  :D  How did you overcome the rain fall in AE10.5 ? [/b] I used to zip up the bow and stern, use a simple poncho as a spray skirt. Works pretty well, with some C-shaped clothes peg. But that restricts me to luring with on...

Caught my first octopus on a kayak yesterday. I thought I was gonna start a marine aquarium and name him Oscar as a pet, but being an escape artist the bugger managed to use its tentacles to undo my net fastener and free himself while I was busy fishing. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/lew...

Will be travelling overseas later in the week, so did a weekday evening session today. The tide did not offer much current from a low of 1.6m to a high of only 2.1m, so I planned it to be a recce trip to a spot I have always watched only from afar. Fine weather was the forecast and the weatherman g...

The fish tastes so good, I took my son out for round 2. He has now taken over the fish finding duties and I just go whereever he leads me. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/lewchinw/8CF03DB5-0225-4CF2-800A-585C439EDDCD-114-00000012F03E0936_zps7090cf16.jpg Another harvest ensued. For those who celebrate the Lunar New Year, Prosperous Greetings! Took the kayak out in search for a festive fish feast. Fishes that were coming up were really good size, better than I had expected. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/lewchinw/17B273CA-F613-4036-93F4-8A0480D3D4FF-1333-0000053E...

Were you using Tamban as bait? You will need a baitfish 6+ inches long for the bigger Macks. Big poppers will also work for big Queenies or Macks, but you need a stiff rod to get the POP! Thanks for the tips. You are right, I should start using bigger baits. 6+ inches is surely gonna land a monster!

Headed out looking for the mana Mackerel but landed Queenie instead. http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n555/lewchinw/407962FB-4645-4BC5-95D9-36C9AC138301-1163-000001EBBDBE8C0E.jpg The second Queenie took some time to land as it refuse to surface.  Being a 15-knot wind day with white caps, I soon...

30lb wire line - about 6 inches long. If you can get a good sized live bait with a size 5/0 circle hook. Tie about 6 to 10 feet of 40lb flouro carbon to the wire trace and use a balloon as a float! Rompin style! If you use a circle hook - let the fish tke the bait, let it run for about 10 seconds a...

Thanks Ian, I have a feeling I am gonna land a mama Mack soon.
Switching to wire line, the bigger ones and their razor sharp teeth tend to rip my line with a single strike.

Went to an entirely new spot today. It was not long before I had a huge strike, but it was not meant to be as I had not set the hook properly and the fish, 2-3kg I guess, was off. Being new to the area, it wasn't long before the coast guard came to say hello, oh well, although it was just a routine...

There was a small window of good weather today, so I took the kayak out for a quick session. Was jigging for bait but felt a huge tug and my rod tip went into the water. I was careful not to exert too much tension as the fish was no ordinary baitfish. Played with it for a while then up it came with...
