Here is just a short video of a dolphin checking me out while kayaking in my favorite spot down on the Indian River in Melbourne, Florida. You can alway count on seeing dolphins, lots of tropical birds (on Bird Island) and sometimes a manatee. Note the storm on the horizon. It was coming fast and I had to get off the water but was finally able to catch one up close. Enjoy.
I see dolphins quite a lot in that area but they are usually busy hunting. I try to give them room and not bother them. This one for some strange reason just changed course and came over to look. Its not very common with wild dolphins. I have another video of two dolphins side by side turned sideways and you can see their eyes looking up at me. I'll have to dig that one up sometime soon.
That's a great video with the dolphin. I love seeing stuff like that. I used to shrimp off of the coast of Florida. We lived on the fishing boat for about a month without any sight of land. Anyway, every night we had schools of sharks (LOTS of them) around the boat. They would disappear and the school of dolphins (never as many as the sharks) would come in close to the boat. They always led the bow of the boat when we were moving from port to where we shrimped. My favorite time every day was the last catch of the night. The sun would come up and the dolphins would hang out around the boat waiting for the scraps to go over. Some would always start jumping out of the water. It was really cool to see. They would almost take the fish out of my hands too (get within 2 feet of my hand). I love dolphins!
