Dragonfly Xc for $250- did I get ripped off?

Post by carlb328 » Wed Oct 07, 2020 7:05 am

So I've been wanting to get another kayak so my kids can paddle my firefly. Yesterday I found a Dragonfly Xc for $250 on ebay right before I was off work, so I snagged it. With tax and shipping though it came out to $308, so not so cheap. Then I found out that model was made in 2008 so it's 12 years old. The ad says it was never used, but I am worried a bit about how the chambers will be if they've been folded up for 12 years in the bag. Any ideas?

Also, what size paddle should I get for my 14 year old boys to paddle my firefly? I am using an Intex 86 inch cheap paddle and it works fine for me. I would like to get a shorter one for them to save weight, but google says it has to be long for such a wide boat?

The materials used in the kayak are durable and should hold up just fine. Just be cautious not to over inflate.
Paddle length for AE Kayaks should range 230-240 cm.

Being twelve years old is not a big worry for the Dragonfly. I have one that old that has seen a LOT of use, and it is still good.
Inflate yours gradually with a hand pump. Rather than over-inflate, I would slightly under-inflate it, maybe 90% full rather than making it full and tight. I often paddle either of my Dragonfly kayaks slightly under-inflated on a hot day.

Unfortunately Fedex "lost" the kayak. They said they delivered it but I was home all day and they never came to my lane. They promised to have the driver call me and they never did. Paypal and Ebay refused to honor their purchase protections and I reported Fedex to the BBB.

Anyways, since I never got the kayak but Paypal is forcing me to pay for it, I had to get something cheap and ordered a used sevylor quickpak K1 which was just delivered, so I get to check it out tonight. Eventually I will get another AE kayak, the Firefly is tight for me, especially with fishing gear, lunch, etc.
