MY VERSION:Inside hull Velcro straps+ Questions

Post by KOCE81 » Fri Dec 08, 2017 2:05 pm

Hi guys
I have AE102 & 1009
I hate aligning the backbone every time and even with the sharpie hack
its hard time
Image

so i have an a little different approach for the inside hull velcro straps:

FOR SHORT: Vinyl on vinyl sewed in velcro

I have this (extra vinyl from punctured unrepairable floor)

Image

So my idea is to glue larger vinyl baselayer in the inside hull
Image

And on the other smaller piece of vinyl to sew the velcro straps

Image

Then i am gonna glue the smaller vinyl with velcro straps to the base lyer

Image

Is this glue ok?

Image

So the idea is to have looser velcro straps on the larger base.
In case the weight is too much on the hull the idea is smaller vinyl to be torn, not the hull.

>>> So what do you think guys?

>>> Is this glue is ok?

>>> Is ok to use the vinyl from the punctured floor
for the baselayer and the top velcro layer ?

Honestly, this looks like a great job to me, Koce81. I'm no expert though. I guess time will tell. I've used that very same glue and it holds well in my experience.

Thanks Whitten
And thank you for replaying

Good thing is that i updated the design

The guy who gonna make this has proposed that i should consider also easy replacement of the velcro straps
He told me that the white base for the straps should be velcro too but with the hook site. And on the bottom of the floor i should put another velcro with the loop side.
So if the straps wear out (he told me that this will happen fast)
I can easy replace it without damaging the inside hull

SHORT Version:

Velcro straps on velcro base hook (instead vinyl)
and on the hull is glued the loop side

What do you think?

Hello
Here is an update

I used as a base parts of my broken pvc base
And created this:

Image

I call this velcro butterfly or VuttterFly :)

Image

The soft part of the velcro base is sewed on the vinyl (it will be glued on the bottom of the kayak)

Image

The VuttterFly is sewed too on the hook side

So the final result:

Someone told me that velcro after few uses will stop function well, so i created replacements too
If there's any questions/suggestions feel free to ask here

I will also update this post with end result soon

Velcro will stop working well when the hook side fills up with thread and hair. But a sewing needle can be used to gently pry out debris. I do this for Velcro on clothing to make the fasteners work well again.
