stand up fishing

Post by kreplerfp » Wed Jun 23, 2010 10:36 am

I`m about to take my son 12years old out fishing with my convert. He wants to stand up to fish. Is this kayak save enough to stand up and fish?

I wouldn't recommend it, but if you do, please have your video camera ready!

The floor is soft (air filled) so wouldn't work. For standing you'd need a hard shell sit-on-top type of kayak I'd imagine.

My friends and I practise falling out of our kayaks in safe conditions, to be ready for emergencies. If your son wants to stand up and fish, it might be a good idea for him to do safety practise as well. That way, when he does fall over (as can happen in any boat, not just these ones) he has some idea of how to get back in or get to shore. It would be bad for the first time he fell in to be during an emergency!
