Sail Accessory

Post by dspid2404 » Tue Jan 19, 2010 9:36 pm

I am finally going to break down this coming year and purchase a sail for my Expedition. The Windpaddle seems the way to go. My question is which one to get - The smaller one or the larger Cruiser. Has anyone used both with the Expedition? My main concern is that the smaller one is too small and the Cruiser to too large. Any input? Also, has Advanced Elements design come along since last year? If so, what kind of sail will it be and when will it be available.

If you are looking at the Windpaddle, contact www.airkayaks.com. They sell it and also have tried the different models and can answer your questions. The AE sail will be available in March.

Any hints on what the AE sail will look like and how it will work? Will it be available in various sizes? Just a hint.

The sail will be somewhat like the windpaddle except that it is designed to work with all of the Advanced Elements kayaks. It is simply folded up and sits on top of your deck. It attaches to the D-rings and the Handle. When the wind picks up, you will simply let it pop up and can control the slack with some lanyards. It will be only one size but has a nice large clear window to see through. It works really well and you can definately get speed when desired. There will be more details on it in the next couple of weeks. We are currently working on updating the website and the sail is one of the updates.

Sounds good to me! I'm sure I can find a few inches of space on my front deck for a sail!

I purchased the "cruiser" windpaddle, the larger of the two models. Have been practicing the fold up routine with it. Due to it's size, while sitting in the kayak, it is a bit difficult to fold up. Haven't tried the smaller one, but I would imagine it would be a bit easier to handle.

Website is being updated as we speak so the pic of the sail should be up by mid next week. Sail will be in and start shipping to dealers at the end of March.
