Inflation- require gauge pump, or 'firm to touch' okay?

Hello All,

I'm looking forward to purchasing a Sport, after a good bit of reading the reviews and comparing specs.

Since I have the kayak chosen, now comes the question of what accessories to use...

The manual for the Sport says to inflate till the chambers are 'firm to the touch'.
How easy is it to get near the ideal psi with the double action hand pump? Will the D.A.H.P. with the gauge significantly help inflation and performance?

The gauge gives an accurate reading but if you choose not to use the gauge, then inflate the main chamber until firm. Then pick up the kayak from either end and if the kayak folds, bends or tacos in the middle, then it needs more air. There shouldn't be any bending.
