Airfusion zipper waterproof enhancement

Post by Tee Loo » Tue Sep 06, 2011 5:01 pm

I am trying to come up with an addition to the zipper water protection. Some kind of rubber flap over the zipper lips with a clamp.

Anybody tried something of the kind?

Hi Tee Loo.

Welcome to the Forum.

I myself am looking at something to do with the zipper.
But I do not think the zipper is the problem.

Deck lifters are the best solution.
There are a few postings about water pooling on the decks.

I have made my own set of deck lifters now NO water gets anywhere the zipper.

I have nat made a posting on My version of the deck lifters as yet as I have more work to do on them first.

Yes I see, FUS has zippers more upfront though.
And I pretty much think of waves crashing on top of the deck!

There is more tension on the zippers with the FUS. The lips open up slightly, and the zippers are exposed.

Not an issue on any calm waters or light waves, but I haven't tested pooring water on the zippers directly.

I'll test that...

waterproofing the zippers

How did it go? Did you decide on deck lifters or did or make some sort of secondary seal over the zippers?

Duct Tape does a great job, but residue afterwards is a problem.
Still looking for solution and I will post them as soon as I have them ready.

Here some pics of my solution. The zippers let water through just like that. I have been paddling with high waves and crashing on the deck.

First make sure the zipper itself is well seated inside the sidewalls.

I use Pattex Power Tape. It has a white sticky side that does not leave residues on the boat.
