Hey guys I just got my backbone today (too cold to try it out).
And I was reading on the instructions not to use it in rivers and shallow waters. So I am just trying to find out when is the best time to use it. When I kayak it is usually rivers/large ponds/small lakes. Is this even going to be useful for me?
When to use

When you want to track a little straighter and get a little more speed, that is when you want to use it. Typically you do not want it in a river that is a little rougher because you want to be able to turn quickly. You can use it in a river but it should be fairly slow moving. If you use it in shallow conditions, you risk it dragging on the bottom of the river and damaging the hull of the kayak.
