Backbone
Hello,
I'm new to inflatables...really like the AF convertible and am seriously thinking about purchasing one. My question is that I see some places sell the "backbone" seperate. Am I then correct in assuming that the boat does not come equipt with one initially? If not, why? Seems essential to its perfomance. Or is it not? How much benefit would I get by using it.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Twiz,
I personally have 2 of the AF without the backbone and boating has been great on the local lakes. The backbone appears to be new back in March or so, so there does not appear to be much for reviews or comparisons yet.
I will be getting the backbone shortly and will post a short comparison if someone hasn't already by then.
Good luck and happy boating.

Thanks...update...I purchased the AE Convertible from Airkayaks.com. I haven't received my boat yet, but let me tell you, their price and customer service are great!
They are very helpful and answered my questions promptly. I also got the "backbone" from them and picked up a UV Protectant and Thundershield Silicone water repellent sprays. If you need anything in the future, I'd recommend them. They take PayPal too!
Thanks again for all your help!

Get the backbone! I posted a reply when I got it, but the system dropped and sent me a warning because I used a spam word, I wrote " worth the ________!"
It really is a good thing. Raised me up out of the water by two inches, stopped the expeditions flexing, I weigh 240, and really gave it the feel of a hard shell. worth it. and I will purchase one for my AF1.
You must get extra padding under your seat though as it ride right in the crap of your..... I used some 2 inch sponge foam and can't fell it any more.
Sincerely,
Frank
