We are currently in the process of designing a sail that will work with all of the models. The design is almost complete and we are trying our best to get it into production for next year. Currently there are alternatives such as the "Paddle Sail", "Spirit Sails" and "Pacific Action". Most people are coming up with theie own ideas and rigging sails for now. Look in the Misc. section of this forum and I believe there are some postings about sails.

Has there been any progress on a sail for the Convertible? We almost always have a pretty good wind that blows toward shore in the afternoon. I have considered the Paddle Sail (I think that is the correct name), but I haven't been too impressed with the videos I have seen with it in use. The kayaks in the videos I have seen seem to barely crawl with it. I have thought of trying to make my own, but would like to see what the pros design first. ;)

The sail is still in the works. When completed, it will work with all of the kayaks. Right now it looks like it will more than likely be introduced into the lineup around mid-season. This would be May-July. Continue to check back for updates.

I kind of thought that it might be something new for this next year. I'm looking forward to seeing it work. I hope you'll be putting up some videos on Youtube so we can all have a look at them in action.

Prodcution has been put on hold for now. Need to work some kinks out in the design. Looking to be a very late season addition at the earliest but more than likely it will be introduced for 2010.

Mast step

Post by SoBeCarlos » Fri Jun 05, 2009 10:21 am

I have a few ideas for a homemade sail, but while we wait for AE to work out a design for a sail for the AE Convertible, I was wondering if anyone has a good suggestion on how to step a mast into/onto the AE Convertible.

Can we expect this sail to be better than the windpaddle?

I used to be a windsurfer for over 20 years. I used to go 30 to 40 mph on tiny windsurfing boards. Loads of fun. That sail looks like a great idea. Too bad you will only be able to use it going down wind. At the lake I was at recently the wind was against me all the way there and then changed directions so it was against me all the way back. It would have been nice to use that sail if the wind had cooperated because it was a total of 15 mi that I had to kayak against the wind. Just about died that day.
