FS: AF Convertible + Accessories (Toronto, ON, Canada)

Hey guys, selling my AF Convertible in Toronto/Mississauga area. Only used it for about 2 seasons and only once last summer. It's a great kayak but unfortunately I don't use it very often now. Me and my wife need a larger boat like a canoe, and I can't justify keeping this kayak for solo trips which...

Dry bags are essential if you plan on using a canoe or a kayak to get to your destination and even if you are hiking. Mishaps happen when you least expect them and in the wilderness they could cost you your life in extreme cases. My moto is: be prepared for the worst. During one of my first wilderne...

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll have to go through my gear and see what I can "lighten up". Biggest problem is convincing my wife not to take too much stuff :-)

Funny thing is that my list of gear doesn't look that different ... it's actually a bit shorter and the flask of scotch is replaced with a plastic bottle filled with vodka :-)

I guess I gotta replace some of my gear with lighter equivalents. What kind of a tent do you use?

Thanks for replying nickeldime! Your other bag looks like about 35L as well ... So it looks like you managed to pack everything in about 80L which is extremely light in my world ... with that little weight distributed evenly over the kayak I don't think you would have any issues even with fairly goo...

Thanks for the kind words Sonar :-) An addition to my post: Just read through a blog by borisf on this board about his trips yet again and in the pictures he posted I noticed that he had dry bags attached perpendicularly to his kayak's top deck in front of both paddlers. Spreading the weight more ev...

AF Convertible storage space - Update

Hey everyone, now that I've taken my Convertible on at least 5 camping trips I can report back with some definitive info on the storage space in this amazing craft. Since I saw lots of questions about storage space on this board I figured I'd share my findings with the rest: Solo configuration -----...

Thanks Sonar! :-)

Yes, I get the same feeling ... so many places in the world where I'd love to paddle and camp ... but will probably never get a chance to.

Camping on Philip Edward Island (Ontario, Canada)

Just visited Philip Edward Island this weekend located on the north side of Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada. Very scenic place with lots of rock formations coming straight out of the water. Figured I'd share some photos: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150743527380221.734613.869345220&l=5...

Looks great, but product pages need improvement

I am going to be brutally honest here and will go straight to the point: I would not have purchased my AF Convertible if I just visited the site. There is not enough information about any of the products, but only short highlights of what's included. Only reason why I have purchased my Advanced Elem...

D-rings I was referring to were for the double conversion deck for AF Convertible. The single conversion deck has them, but not the double deck. This definitely would be a good convenience feature.

Great idea!

I was wondering the same about not having any D-rings to tie down gear in front of the rear seat and no grab line around the boat .... but I guess I'll just follow Sonar's howto and add some D-rings where needed.

If paddling a Convertible solo you will not be able to reach to the back ... When going solo I usually load cargo inside the kayak in front and behind the seat and use a small deck bag attacked to the top deck in front of me for any items I may need while paddling such as GPS, camera and water. When...

Reporting back as promised. PVC pipe frame - I extended it an extra inch and though it seems as a tight fit it has made a noticeable difference. I am still perfecting it, so will post back in a separate post with pictures and exact dimensions when finally done. Backbone mod, this is what I've done. ...

Thanks for the idea sonar! The issue is not only getting in and out though, it's also that my knees press against the coaming while I am seated which feels quite uncomfortable after few hours. Extending the coaming towards the bow by few inches will do the trick which theoretically should be easier ...
