OK...The break is 5.5cm from where it slides into the metal joiner. Check the photos. They are in the reverse order I took them. When I took the first one, I didn't realize the joiner was there until I took out several more stitches. http://www.flickr.com/photos/40112242@N02/6011915688/in/photostrea...

Sonar to the rescue!!!

Of course the broken spot is on the complete opposite side from where the fabric overlaps! Can I just clip the threads where the break is and take it out there? And why do I need to take the whole pole out? I can't imagine putting it back in will be easy!

Thanks, Timbo. So kind of you to say. I took both of those photos with my phone's camera. I didn't even know I was taking black and whites. Apparently I pushed something!

It's amazing really. As I was launching a young guy with a beat up motorboat was heading out to fish. He was saying that he didn't have lights on his boat so had to come in before it got dark but if he could, he'd stay out until morning. At the time I thought that was kind of funny and thought yeah,...

The Finger Lakes

I decided I wanted to paddle all 11 of the Finger Lakes in NY. So far I have been on 5 of them...Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, and Seneca. I made a huge mistake though. I paddled Hemlock and Canadice. I should have left them for last. Both are reservoirs for the city of Rochester and they are...

Does anyone know what this is?

The one of the left is a Canada Goose but does anyone know what the bird on the right it? There were three of them with the same coloring. This one appears to be a male as the other two had finer bills than this. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6017/5947159634_f1b3c691dd_m.jpg I'm thinking maybe they...

Excellent!!!

I looked at Wal*Mart last evening but they only had a couple of mirrors that attached to the handle bar. (I really don't want to pack a bike in or on my kayak!) ANOTHER great idea, Don! Thank you!!

Thank you both for those great ideas!! I thought about a bike mirror but didn't know how they attach. If they make something that would clip on, that might work on my baseball style cap I always wear. I also thought about a car mirror. I really like the magnet/removable idea! Again many thanks, gent...

You know what I'd love?

...a rearview mirror! Yesterday I was sailing across the bay with my RapidUp Sail and there was a LARGE sailboat on the same track directly behind me. Needless to say he was moving at a much faster clip that I was! There have also been times, when kayaking with friends, where I would have liked to h...

Thank you! I've been told that the swans are considered an invasive species here. It's hard to imagine something so beautiful could be.

Late afternoon paddle

I got brave this evening and took my good camera kayaking with me. Here are a few of the many swans out and about. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6003/5934981083_cdbe46ab86_m.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6008/5934980517_3177158e6d_m.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6140/5935540376_42b87eb051...
