I made a three quarter splash cover for the dragon fly. Purchased light waterproof nylon and heavy round elastic. Made the skirt double so it was easy to sew a channel round the edge to put in the elastic (also makes a pocket to slide light things into - gloves etc. The elastic hooks under the coami...

We pushed a blow up cushion over the tube under the deck in our dragonflies to 'tent' the deck. We also proofed the deck so the water beads and runs off - worked well in a choppy sea.
I think there are zip sealers too?

We swopped our dragonfly 2 for 2 singles and they are great. They do wag a bit but with a full two litre bottle of water pushed right forward under the deck it was easy to keep on track. Went out on the sea - offshore wind developed and it was hard to get back - but stayed fairly dry until beaching ...

Hi we had a dragonfly2 and had the same problem as well as with water dripping in through the coaming - we ended up soaked. We have since swopped for 2 dragonfly 1's. There is still a little sag and we have two blow up cushions which we wedge over the tube under the deck - this 'tents' the area nice...

dragonfly 1 tracking

Hi,
what is the tracking like on the dragonfly 1, please? Does anyone have recommendations for a good (inexpensive) split paddle suitable for calm river and coastal use?

I just read your post again and note you said to put the slat over the top of the tube. I found this didn't work as the ends slid round the tube. I put the strip of canvas so the ends were inside the tube, braced against the tube and this was quite robust.

Hi again, We may be erring on the side of under inflation as we are concerned not to over-inflate as per instructions - though we don't have to worry about very hot sun! I had thought the same thing about a former to keep the shape of the hull. I have some stiff plastic canvas - the sort used by chi...

thanks for reply - am reassured that the Dragonfly can have a waterproof deck in the sea as it was bought to take to the Scilly isles for exploring the islands' bays. I don't understand why ours isn't. It seems to be a laminate with what looks like an impermeable coating on the underside - I would h...

Thanks for replying. I am only 5' tall - bending my knees only pushes up the splash skirt. Drips do come off the paddles but they are prevented from landing in the cockpit by the splash skirts which are proofed. The paddle drip lands on the green cover which darkens and if I push my hand between cov...

How waterproof is the outer cover supposed to be on this boat?
Should the outer cover be very taut over the boat or is it supposed to be raher slack in places?

dragonfly2

We took the dragonfly out on a flat calm canal yesterday. I'd made splash skirts so we could keep fairly dry in the boat. This our second trip. rear paddler stayed dry. Front paddler got thoroughly soaked - as it water dripping off clothing when emerging from kayak. The water seemed to be penetratin...

I have dragonfly2 with inflated coamings. I made a splash skirt from lightweight waterproof material. I made it double-skinned so I could just sew a channel for strong black round elastic. The elastic slips under the edge of the inflated coaming and does not come off. It is easy to remove by just pu...

Dragonfly2

Have a dragonfly2 - used it once great tracking, great turning - on a sixpence - reasonably speedy. The outer cover seems a little saggy - we put empty plastic water between the cover and tube to tighten it up Problem with a drip coming from the stitched mesh pocket in front of rear cockpit - seems ...
