seat back

I have an expedition and am still getting the foot peg adjustment right so I am pushing on my legs each stroke but think it's right for next use now. I found even with the lumbar seat that I have I wasn't as erect as I wanted to be so I started by flipping my half spray skirt with big pocket and a s...

spray skirt

I have a half spray skirt that tucks under the coaming and works pretty well once you tighten the bungee a little, tie it then tuck it under the inflated coaming. on amazon it's "seals splash deck spray skirt" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001X8C34O/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details Here is the photo o...

I actually joined a paddling group here in the metro area which has 352 members of all ages, genders, kayaks...shorties and long ones! I haven't done any paddling with them yet but as events come up from looking at their photos over the last few years I will be able to do a few events a year with th...

surf to summit deck bag

I finally got a deck bag I like...it's 28" long, roll dry bag with clear top, lacing on top, plenty of clips to the deck and looks like it will fit my needs perfectly next time on the kayak out on the water. I'm getting there with what suits me best. Surf to Summit Wedge Kayak Deck Dry Bag http://ww...

folding my expedition....

I am learning how to set the foot brace, support the seat back better, put the spray skirt on so it stays, and how best to put the backbone in. I kayaked 4 miles yesterday with it on the James River and it did great again. I have a new deck bag for the front that I like really well that came today.....

Nice photo albums. I noticed what looks like either the backbone or an extra four piece paddle on the front under the bungees in several photos. If an extra paddle do you carry it all the time? So far I haven't done that but this summer in Maine even with a paddle strap securing mine I'm wondering i...

this is currently my deck bag

This is what I'm using now...at about $99 it isn't cheap but in my view is 6" too narrow, too short and could use another 2-4"in height. Only size available and what I'm starting with. I am pointing towards Maine and want more in one bag without the dry bags having to be tied off on the sides so muc...

deck Bag for expedition

What deck bag do you put in front of you on your Expedition? I have one fairly expensive one that is waterproof but I think is too small and am trying another larger one....on order....Surf to Summit Wedge Kayak Deck Dry Bag...the first one is rigged with a 5 L dry bag tied to the side of each and t...

Tasman Sea

I can't believe anyone would attempt such a trip in those waters. There are seas that can approach 20 meters in height not to mention turbulence. That's just insane. When I go Maine to sightsee this summer I'm taking my Trek Hybrid bicycle, the expedition Kayak and all of my camera equipment as I'll...

thanks..

Yes, the NikonD90 and lenses are excellent cameras. Morris Creek is tidal off the Chickahominy River which is a short river off the James River maybe ten miles or less upstream from Jamestown itself and 40 miles from the great entrance to Norfolk, Hampton Roads. In summer many of these mud flats and...

Sydney to Hobart Race

This race if I recall starts on Boxing Day and after a sail down the coast has to cross Bass Straight. People often die in this race and even big 82' unlimited sailboats can have trouble with the huge square waves created and if there is a storm which isn't unusual, it's even worse. Just finishing S...

Bass Straight... a legendary place to sailors...

I'm a 25 year big boat sailor and Boxing Day's race which crosses Bass straight and it's miserable weather with currents and shoals is just legendary. Here, most of the rivers are mud bottoms but where there are cypress trees you have to watch out for old bald knob roots which are pointed at the top...

two wheeled dolly

I didn't photo it but parked the car above the boat launch ramp and set the kayak up on the grass, loaded it, tied things to it and strapped it to the dolly, wheeled it down to the water, tied it to the dock and took the dolly back to the car and parked it. Easy even for 100' of walk to handle the ka...

p.s.

Morris Creek is famous here as it is where Captain John Smith and two men were exploring in the early 1600's from Jamestown when Chief Powhatan's principle warrior chief and his men captured them, killed the other two, trotted Smith around on land for a few weeks then turned him over to Powhatan, ch...

Kayaked Morris Creek today....

I took the Expedition about five miles across the Chickahominy River then over a shallow mud bank at lowish tide into the long and serpentine, deep, Morris Creek down near Jamestown. It was sunny, about 51 degrees, still winter and I had to go diagonally across the Chick. River for an hour's hard pa...
