thanks for your reply, PJ! by the time you replied, i'd already been on my trip (i always wait too long to post here before a trip), but i really appreciate your feedback. i'd watched some YT videos about launching a kayak in the ocean, and had that input. i did wait for low tide, and watched the ti...

paddling out in the ocean?

next week i'll be at edisto island, south carolina. i've paddled in the creeks and marshes often, but am wanting to go out in the ocean this time. maybe. i have the advanced frame and the advanced frame convertible, no spray skirt, and in good shape for a 53 y.o dude, but i don't paddle that often. ...

baymen1, i have this boat and the single person version of it. it is quite sturdy. i've paddled in marshes w/ oyster shells, and was careful to stay clear. i wound up going over some, and it just scratched the hull some. i've paddled creeks and small rivers in the boat, with LOTS of sticks, logs, ro...

trip to folly beach, sc next week

i'll be on a family trip next week. i'm taking my adv frame convertible and my adv frame single. there's a local kayak shop that has posted trips near by w/ google maps. i'll try some of them, but if you know the area and see this in the next couple of days, let me know of any spots.

thanks.

hey! good luck to you! i've seen the pic you linked to, in fact, i knew what it was before i clicked on the link. i think some of she we see there is the discrepancy between the man and his grand-daughter, and the fact that this boat is so long. i wonder if the same would happen w/ the single versio...

thanks limbo. i would have figured it ok to use the 6psi to inflate most of the way, as long as the speed of the air going in wasn't too fast.

good to know there's a sleeve or pocket for the metal thing.

multi unrelated questions.

sorry for the all these unrelated questions, i wanted to ask all in one spot. 1. i recently took my AFC on a lake, winds about 10-12 mph. due to my pump breaking, it was not fully inflated. i was by myself, and had a hard time w/ the wind/waves and the front seemed to flap. is it likely my problems ...

thank you for the link! i feel like a dope, because this adaptor was in my repair kit, in the seat back. crap, all this time, i could have been pumping w/ two hands and not tweaking the handle so much.

i'm tempted to glue the pump, but that usually doesn't work out for me.

pump connecting to spring valve question

the AE convertible i purchased secondhand came with a coleman double action pump (it looks exactly like the AE ones), BUT the closest matching connector was too big. so i sanded it down with a fine grit sandpaper. while this worked, i had to hold the connector to the valve while pumping with one han...

thanks guys for the help. we have a west marine in my city, so i'll look there.

Timbo, good tip on putting the tube in the freezer! i've had so many tubes of glue, cauk, etc. go bad over the years, having just needed it every now and then.

repair question

i'm pretty sure what to do but just want some backup on repairs of the following: on the gray hull (no where near the tubes), i have 2 or 3 scratches that appear to have dug into the material more than just a little. they are only 1-2 inches long and i cannot see the scratch from the inside. more co...

i take the floor out and fold it separately. both it and the main tubes i deflate w/ my pump, and i FINALLY figured out the fold in from the right one time and from the left three times deal. its funny, its not hard, but that 1st time really frustrated me. i bought a tandom because my wife wanted a ...

i can hoist it on a shoulder for portage, so i didn't drag it. at the end of the trip, unexpectedly to me, when i paddled to the bank of the creek, one of the group grabbed the front handle, and dragged me onto the bank (me and the boat). i was thinking i'd get out of the boat and then drag. i kinda...
