New models?

Post by jim.s » Fri Jul 24, 2009 10:19 am

Ok, I can't be the only person to be devoured by curiosity...
What are the two new AE kayaks that are being introduced at the current Outdoor Retail Show? It's on the AE twitter page so it must be true

Okay, okay, okay. We were going to keep it as a suprise but.............
Just kidding. We have developed a couple of new kayaks that yes, we did reveal at the recent Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City.
The first is a stripped down version of the Advanced Frame single. It comes in at 26lbs. which is 10 lbs. less than the current Advanced Frame. Length and width are the same and you will get the same performance, just in a lighter, easier to carry Advanced Frame.
The second is more of a hybrid folding frame/inflatable kayak. It is 13 ft long, weighs 32 lbs and is 25" wide. Many of you may have tried a pakboat or folboat before which can be a painstaking process to put together. I have put one together and it took me 40 min. The kayak we are introducing can be put together in 10 min. once you know where things go and how to inflate it.
Both kayaks will go into production later this year and should be available in January. So sorry to say that you will have to wait so long but it will definately be worth the wait.

I'm really curious about this new Fushion model. Do you have any more info about it that you can tell us? Any Pictures?

For right now I don't have any downloadable photos for the Fusion.
It is 13' long 25" in width and weighs 32#s. Has four small high pressure tubes that run along the length of the kayak on the sides and has three aluminum rods that also run along the sides and along the floor down the center. It is a hybrid inflatable/folding frame kayak. Easier to put together and take apart than your usual folding frame kayaks and better performing than your usual inflatable kayaks. When I have more information, I will post it. Also, keep your eye open for the 2010 catalog which will be able to be downloaded on the site soon.

Hi JCooley, one quick question on the Advanced Frame Sport model. You mention single but will there be plans for a tandem as well? :D

Thanks,
-Mike & Sue

Videos probably won't be done until the beginning of the year. You can check www.airkayaks.com or youtube to see if any new videos have been posted. I pretty much doubt it since the Fusions samples haven't arrived yet and we only just started sending out some Sport samples to reps.

fusion

Post by phinl82 » Thu Oct 22, 2009 7:38 am

Just saw a photo of the fusion on a NZ facebook site (google 'advanced elements fusion'). Looks very nice! I hope it has a decent foot rest (my major problem with the convertible).

It reminds me very much of the Tom Yost Sonnet designs (he has a great website btw if you haven't seen it before). I'd thought about making one of those in the past and it's about time someone made something of that style for those of us that don't have the time to do it ourselves.

No doubt we'll have to pay double for it in the UK though...

Airkayaks added a video of the sport model (I think) on Youtube.
