Advice on paddle lengths

Post by jacko1uk » Thu Jul 02, 2009 12:40 pm

Hi, I am buying an expedition for me and a 10.5 for my wife but am a little concerned with paddle size for the widths of the yaks as I want to buy them online at the same time. I am 5'-10" for the Expedition and my wife is 5'-4" for the 10.5. Any advice would be much appreciated as this seems to be taling longer than resolving which kayak to choose lol.

Paul,

Any paddle length between 230 cm and 240 cm will be good with the kayak.

Any paddle length that works for you or your partner should be okay. Don't just assume you need a longer paddle because you are taller, or that you need the longer kayak. Be sure to swap around with your partner and see how the equipment works for you.
Try a friend's paddle too and see if it feels different.
My partner swears by his greenland paddle, carved from a two-by-four.
